Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, inaugurated yesterday a seminar entitled “The Documentation of Heritage Buildings Ornaments and Modern Trends in the Design Industry.” The seminar was organized by the BA Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center (Alex Med), in collaboration with the Egyptian Heritage Rescue Foundation (EHRF). The event was attended by Ms. Azza Fahmy, the Egyptian Jewelry Designer and Founder of Azza Fahmy Jewelry, and Dr. Jacqueline Azer, Deputy Governor of Alexandria.
Dr. Elfeki said that small artistic symbols are highly indicative of the important periods of Egyptian history, noting that the Mamluk period is exceptionally significant as it is rich with art and symbols that appear vividly on the buildings of that era. He also stressed that researchers at the BA are particularly concerned with the Mamluk period, and conduct various studies that tackle the different aesthetic aspects of that era.
