Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, received this year’s Sheikh Zayed Book Award and the gold medal in an official ceremony in the United Arab Emirates, with the attendance of outstanding Arab figures headed by Lieutenant-General Saif bin Zayed, Minister of Interior and Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the International Publishers Association, together with a host of prominent Emirati figures and several journalists, media professionals, intellectuals, and writers.
Elfeki expressed his delight with the prize that was awarded to the BA in the Publishing and Technology category. He stated that the award is an honor to Arab culture in general and Egyptian culture in particular.
He mentioned that he was proud the BA had won an award that bears the name of Sheikh Zayed Al-Nahyan, which will allow it to continue to be a source of wisdom and inspiration as it has always been known for over 2000 years.
Furthermore, he dedicated this honor to the BA staff and users, stressing the fact that the Library is a hub of innovation, and a cultural center for heritage preservation, as well as writing and publishing.
