Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the Library of Alexandria, said that the Peace Agreement between the UAE, Bahrain, and Israel fulfils the ‘peace-for-peace’ principle, noting that we entered a new phase regarding the relations between the Arab countries and Israel following a period of boycott.
In his TV interview on MBC Masr, Elfeki explained that the UAE and Bahrain made a new and unconventional attempt to establish peace in the region, calling on Israel to help solve the Palestinian case and cease its settlement policy.
Concerning the role of the Arab League, Dr. Elfeki pointed out that it should come to terms with the new situation in the region, and should understand that some of its members maintain relations with Israel, stating that it should be transformed into an economic and cultural organization.
In addition, he said that signing agreements at present is in the interest of President Trump before the US elections, as he attempts to stay in office for a second term. He asserted that the Peace Agreement between the UAE, Bahrain, and Israel lays the foundation for the US to implement its ‘Deal of the Century’.
