In his latest interview with Sherif Amer on MBC Masr, Dr. Mostafa Elfeki, Director of the Library of Alexandria, said that October War restored Egypt’s dignity after years of humiliation during the Israeli occupation of Sinai, pointing out to the fact that Israel still strives to wipe out this victory from the Arab memory and is always attempting to uproot its defeat.
Dr. Elfeki spoke about Anwar Sadat’s management of the circumstances preceding the war and how he bravely bore all the criticism from the public and deceived the whole world by claiming that he is incapable of waging a war. However in just one day Sadat succeeded to conquer the most difficult fortification built by the Israelis. Elfeki maintained that crossing the Suez Canal was a major achievement and was described as the “Great Crossing”.
Elfeki referred to the importance of documenting the memories of October War in addition to the existing television and drama works. He concluded that the military troops, who participated in this triumph should attempt to record all their memories of October War for future generations.
