In his latest interview with Sherif Amer on MBC Masr, Dr. Mostafa Elfeki, Director of the Library of Alexandria, said that he was not enthusiastic about the return of the Senate, because its presence is not accompanied by a strong political life in Egypt, and this is not happening at the present time. He stated that Egyptians are more concerned with the idea of the ‘authority and President’ than with the idea of the ‘political party’.
He also noted that the priorities of the Senate largely involve the theoretical and consultative roles, as well as the determination of the country’s long-term policies, whereas the Parliament will handle different matters such as the economic situation and legislations.
With regard to the upcoming parliamentary elections, Elfeki recognized the candidacy of a younger age group, unlike what had long been established, and asserted that it was a good and promising matter.
