Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, said that the BA Zahi Hawass Center of Egyptology, under the leadership of Egyptologist Dr. Zahi Hawass, would announce a major archaeological discovery in January 2021.
He pointed out that the BA, for the first time through the Center of Egyptology, is conducting archaeological excavations in Saqqara, which contains several pyramids and tombs from the Pharaonic to the Greco-Roman period.
He also commended the efforts exerted by Dr. Zahi Hawass and his team of Egyptian archaeologists and workers near the Pyramid of Teti, as they work in desert areas and experience difficult climatic conditions, striving to discover the secrets and treasures of the ancient Egyptian civilization that never fail to dazzle the world.
He added: “It has been a fantastic experience for me to come to Saqqara and witness the excavations spearheaded by the world-renowned Archaeologist Zahi Hawass and his team. What particularly gives me joy is that these excavations are carried out by the BA Zahi Hawass Center for Egyptology, which I am honored to have established following my appointment as Director of the BA.”
Furthermore, Elfeki asserted that the BA takes pride in the affiliation of Zahi Hawass Center of Egyptology to its group of research centers. He noted that the excavations currently taking place in Saqqara are testament to the Egyptians’ respect for heritage and veneration of their country’s multifarious history.
Elfeki also stated that the BA, in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, is preparing a press conference, and will invite local and international media outlets, to unveil this momentous discovery to the world.
