Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, received H.E. Frank Hartmann, the German Ambassador to Egypt on Wednesday, 8 September 2021.
Dr. Elfeki said that the meeting was fruitful as they discussed a number of important topics, such as the history of the ancient Library of Alexandria and the idea of its revival at the beginning of the third millennium. Moreover, Dr. Elfeki highlighted the cultural and educational role of the BA in strengthening the relationships among nations.
H.E. Frank Hartmann said that he was keen on visiting the BA when he took up his role as the German Ambassador to Egypt. He also stressed the importance of creating channels of cooperation with the BA on future cultural projects, and highlighted the fact that Germany has a number of certified cultural and scientific institutions including Goethe Institute in Cairo, Alexandria, and Hurghada, and the German Academic Exchange Services (DAAD).
The delegation toured the BA and was introduced to its specialized libraries and various museums. Additionally, Dr. Elfeki presented Ambassador Hartmann with a number of BA publication, such as The Photographic Memory of Cairo and a book on the history and discovery of the Rosetta Stone.
