The Governorate of Cairo has decided to hand over the Palace of Princess Khadijah in Helwan to the BA. This decision comes in line with its belief in the pioneering role of the BA in the field of culture inside Egypt and abroad. The BA has received management of the Palace with plans to establish a museum of religions during a celebration that was held last Sunday, 27 May 2018, in the presence of a number of ministers, members of parliament, ambassadors, media personnel and local public figures.
In a speech delivered by Dr. Khaled El-Enany, Minister of Antiquities, on behalf of Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, he stressed that the BA is held in the highest regard for its pioneering role in cultural enlightenment. He also confirmed that allocating the Palace of Princess Khadijah in Helwan to establish a museum for religions represents the spirit of tolerance and the depth of the Egyptian people’s faith, especially since Egypt has been a cradle of religions and was mentioned in the Quran and the Bible.
Dr. Mostafa el Feki, Director of the BA, said that religions have constituted cultural transitions throughout the evolution of humanity, and no country in the world has a heritage as diverse as that of Egypt, as it embraced different religions, cultures and civilizations.
Cultural activity in the palace will starts immediately after the Eid al-Fitr in conjunction with the planning to begin converting the palace to a museum of religions.
