The Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized an event on Monday, 15 July 2019, to celebrate Dr. Moufid Shehab, Professor of International Law and Former Minister of Higher Education, for receiving the Nile Prize in Social Sciences. The event was attended by Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the BA, and a host of professors and intellectuals.
Dr. Elfeki talked about his relationship with Dr. Shehab that goes back to 1966 when they were both colleagues in the Youth Organization of the Socialist Union. He stressed the fact that Dr. Shehab is a patriotic Egyptian man whose remarkable achievements include the case of the International Arbitration for Taba. He also discussed his personal and academic journey, and highlighted his role in reclaiming Taba, saying: “Reclaiming Taba was not just a matter of winning or losing. It was an issue of life and death and the preservation of a country’s dignity.”
