Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the BA, chaired the Alexandria Center for Hellenistic Studies Board of Directors’ meeting as part of his current trip to Athens. Dr. Elfeki discussed the introduction of “Intercultural Euro-Mediterranean Studies Diploma”, which would widen the scope of the Center and offer an innovative field of study. He also introduced a (Massive Open Online Course) MOOC in different aspects related to Hellenistic and Mediterranean Studies. Moreover, he proposed the idea of organizing a conference on science and technology in the ancient world.
Mrs Marianna V. Vardinoyannis, Founder and President of the “Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation”, praised the important role of the Alexandria Center for Hellenistic Studies in the dissemination of Greek history and culture. She referred to the fact that 91 postgraduate degrees were awarded to students from around the world in the last 5 years. She also noted that an event celebrating 10 years since the establishment of the Center will be held in Egypt in October, with the presence of several international figures.
It is worth mentioning that Dr. Elfeki is heading the BA delegation at the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Conference in Athens. He also met with Dr. George Manginis, Academic Director of the Benaki Museum, and discussed the methods of developing museums and the means of preserving human heritage. He also touched upon the possibility of a collaboration between the Benaki Museum and the BA.
