In his latest interview with Sherif Amer on MBC Masr, Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the Library of Alexandria, said that Egypt is calling for a trilateral presidential meeting to resolve the Renaissance Dam crisis -- an initiative which Ethiopia is reluctant to be involved in. He added that Egypt requested that the African Union leads the negotiations, so that Ethiopia would be confident that no foreign parties are involved in this issue.
He also noted that Ethiopia’s attitude is arrogant, stressing the fact that this issue could lead to the devastation of the entire African region, if not resolved properly, and all parties would pay the price if this crisis escalated into conflict.
In addition, he maintained that both Egypt and Sudan would not accept this situation so long as the Ethiopian intransigence persists. He asserted that Ethiopia is not keen on negotiating with Egypt and Sudan, stating, “It is evident that there are some regional powers endorsing Ethiopia’s obstinate stance.”
At the end of the interview, Elfeki pointed out that the problem of the Renaissance Dam is complicated, calling upon the Security Council to intervene, saying, “We may resort to a military solution, if this rigid situation persists”
