Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the Library of Alexandria, said that Ethiopia refused to recognize the Nile Basin countries’ fixed shares of the river water, and that reaching a solution regarding the rules of filling the reservoir of the Renaissance Dam is easier than Ethiopia’s recognition of the downstream countries’ historical rights to the Nile water.
He also added, in his TV interview on MBC Masr, that Egypt’s only option is to resort to the prerogatives of the UN Security Council that could refer the case to the International Court of Justice, noting that the military solution would negatively impact both parties, and would trigger a state of international and regional polarization.
Additionally, he maintained that the Renaissance Dam crisis would not have happened, if it had not been for the chaos that accompanied the events of January 25 and their aftermath, highlighting the fact that the issue of the Renaissance Dam was seriously handled and managed under President Sisi.
