Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the Library of Alexandria, said that Egypt raised the issue of the Renaissance Dam before the UN Security Council in the most transparent and civilized way, noting that the speech of Sameh Shoukry, the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, before the Security Council, was balanced and respectful of other states development endeavors, and was full of pride towards Egypt and its history.
Elfeki added in his TV interview on MBC Masr that Egypt always lends a helping hand to its sister countries, and helps them develop their communities, so long as their development projects are not malicious. He also said that he rejects the term “Renaissance Dam”, and instead prefers calling it the “Ethiopian Dam”, because Egypt does not stand in the way of any country’s paths towards development.
He continued: “It is alright that the problems of Africa should be addressed by the Africans, provided that they are capable of handling them, without taking sides. It is also fine to go through both directions, namely the UN and the African efforts to solve the case”.
Moreover, he asserted that the 30 June Revolution saved Egypt from further deterioration in the case of the Renaissance Dam, as Egypt currently has a president who is highly appreciated by Africa and the world, and who works for a better future for his country and does not relinquish the rights of his people.
