In his latest interview with Sherif Amer on MBC Masr, Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the Library of Alexandria, said that Egypt and Sudan started to realize the real risks of the Renaissance Dam, and that the unilateral act of Ethiopia regarding this issue would lead to catastrophic consequences in the future.
He maintained that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has been trying to restore the Egyptian-Sudanese relations since the rule of President Omar Al-Bashir – a regime that was not eager to maintain good relations with Egypt. He also noted that the recent rapprochement between the two countries does not represent an alliance against Ethiopia.
In addition, Elfeki emphasized the importance of an urgent resolution between Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia concerning the issue of the Renaissance Dam. He highlighted the fact that the agreement signed by the three countries in 2015 was disregarded by Ethiopia, which merely ustilized it to obtain funding to pursue building the Dam.
